Energy Efficiency

When closed, upvc lift & slide windows create a tight seal that minimizes drafts and heat loss. They help regulate indoor temperatures, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling, which helps save energy.

Components of Upvc Lifting Sliding Window

The frame: The frame is the structure that both surrounds and supports the entire window unit. A frame's components can vary depending on the type of window being installed.

The glazing: This term refers to the cut piece of glass that fills the window frame. If a window has one pane of glass, it is a single-glazed window; if it has two panes, it is double-glazed; three panes, triple-glazed. Most domestic windows on the market are either double-glazed or triple-glazed.

The casing: The decorative mold that goes around the window frame on the inside of the home.

The head: The horizontal section that forms the top of the window frame.

Multi-point locks: The locking system that holds the window sash in place in multiple parts along the frame when it is closed.

The jamb

A vertical section that connects to the interior of the window frame. On hung windows, the sash moves along the jambs to open and close.

The sill

The horizontal section that forms the bottom of the window frame. On sliding windows, the sash moves along the sill to open and close.

The sash

The moveable panel that holds the glass and the framework of the glass firmly locked in place. When you open a sliding or a hung window, the sash is the component of the window that actually slides open.

I'll start by telling you that internal sliding windows are available in 3 materials:

  • Pvc
  • Wood
  • Aluminum

Sliding windows in pvc
PVC sliding windows last a long time even with little maintenance.

The sliding windows are placed in a plastic frame, light and insulating in different finishes: there are in fact various colors that allow you to create modern and refined styles.

Another advantage is that pvc sliding windows are priced below average.

Sliding wooden windows
Sliding wooden windows are in my opinion the most elegant choice. Wood conveys a feeling of welcome, warmth and refinement. Furthermore, wood creates elegance.

Obviously, a wooden sliding window is perfect for a rustically furnished environment. However, it requires high maintenance compared to pvc sliding windows. The price of wooden sliding windows is higher than pvc.

Sliding aluminum windows
Sliding aluminum windows are the ones that have the most modern look. Equipped with high thermal insulation which reduces energy consumption.

Aluminum is a light material that can be lifted and slides easily and lasts a long time. Being a metal, it must be equipped with a thermal break frame and double glazing.

The price of sliding aluminum windows, as we have seen before, is the highest. However, it is an investment to be evaluated in the long term.

Factors to Consider When Comparing Upvc Lifting Sliding Windows

Energy efficiency
As energy conservation becomes a global priority, windows that contribute to energy efficiency are highly sought after. These windows shine in this aspect, offering exceptional insulation. Their tightly sealed frames prevent drafts and minimize heat transfer, maintaining indoor temperatures and significantly reducing the need for artificial heating or cooling. This translates to lower energy bills and a more environmentally friendly home.

Material quality and durability
The durability of windows heavily relies on the quality of materials used. When comparing upvc slide windows, ensure that the upvc material and the frame construction meet high standards. Opt for windows that boast uv resistance, weather resilience, and resistance to fading, ensuring that your investment remains visually appealing and functional for years.

Aesthetic and design options
Despite their functional prowess, these windows do not compromise on aesthetics. They come in various styles, designs, and finishes to seamlessly integrate with your home's architectural aesthetics. Whether your home exudes a traditional charm or embraces modern minimalism, there's a window design to complement your preferences.

Security features
Home security is of paramount importance. These windows offer an added layer of security through robust locking mechanisms. When comparing options, consider the type of locks provided and their effectiveness. Strike a balance between security and convenience, ensuring the windows offer protection and allow easy operation.

Noise insulation
Urban dwellers often grapple with external noise infiltrating their living spaces. These windows provide effective noise insulation, creating a more serene and peaceful indoor environment. By dampening external sounds, these windows elevate your quality of life and contribute to a relaxing home atmosphere.

How to Maintain Upvc Lifting Sliding Window

1. Opening and closing windows

Your vinyl sliding window system is designed with integrated rails that allow for easy operation of the moving sash. These rails are small edges that extend to the inside of the house and span the entire height of the sash. Use these rails to slide the operating sash horizontally. Avoid pushing or pulling on the opposite side of the sash.

2. Locking the window

Make sure the operating sash is in the fully closed position. Otherwise, the lock and latch positions will not align properly and the window may be difficult to lock. Find the locking position on the window's junction track. Use your fingers to move the knife latch vertically until it points in the opposite direction. Never force the latch as this may damage the window or the locking mechanism. If the locking mechanism does not move freely, your window may not be fully closed. Open the sash, close it tightly, and try again. To unlock the window, simply move the latch to its original position.

3. Draft stop

A spring-loaded stop hidden in the sill track conveniently limits the sash from fully opening (allowing approximately 2 inches (50 mm) of draft). To activate this feature, apply downward and sideways pressure and the stop will pop out. To release, press downward and sideways.

4. Cleaning the glass

Your sliding window system is designed so that the operating sash can be removed from the frame for easier cleaning. First, release the lock and slide the sash to the center of the window so that it can bypass the anti-lift stop located at the head of the frame. Grip the center of the sash on both sides and lift it into the frame. Carefully remove the bottom of the sash from the frame. Remember that on large units, this sash can be heavy. Take the precaution of having a surface ready to rest it on, or enlist the help of a second person. The sash can now be removed.

5. Lubrication and cleaning

The operating sash in a sliding window moves horizontally in its tracks. These tracks are exposed to the outside elements and can collect dust, dirt, and debris. Semi-annual cleaning is recommended to prevent these substances from interfering with the proper operation of the window system. Lubricating the top and bottom tracks is recommended to enhance the operation of the window. Spray silicone or car wax suitable for plastics works well. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants as they will attract dust and hinder operation. The roller mechanism is self-lubricating and requires no additional lubricant.

How to Clean Upvc Lifting Sliding Windows: Simple and Effective Steps

Cleaning sliding windows can seem like a daunting task, but with the right techniques, it's a breeze. Follow these steps to keep your sliding windows sparkling clean:

Q: What does uPVC mean in windows?

A: UPVC, which stands for Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, is a low-maintenance building material used as a substitute for painted wood, mostly for window frames and sills when installing double glazing in new buildings, or to replace older single glazed windows.

Q: How do you lift a uPVC window?

A: First, locate the adjustment screws on each side of the window frame. Using a screwdriver, turn each screw clockwise to raise the window or counterclockwise to lower it. Q: What is difference between PVC and uPVC?

A: The distinction between them is whether they're coated in plasticisers: PVC has plasticisers, whereas uPVC does not. Plasticisers make PVC malleable and flexible, making it ideal for wires, toys, shower curtains, and even clothing. uPVC is hard and inflexible, so it's better suited to window frames and water pipes.

Q: Which is better, uPVC or aluminium?

A: In conclusion, aluminium windows vs uPVC windows both are great for your home to keep well-insulated. However, if you're looking for a window that will last the longest, then as far as durability, aluminium is the way to go. aluminium windows are cheaper than uPVC ones, especially for larger windows.

Q: Which is more expensive, uPVC or PVC?

A: In comparison to UPVC, PVC is a less expensive choice. However, because of its flexibility, it is less durable, and it also includes phthalates and BPA. PVC is unsuitable for window and door manufacturing because of its chemical make-up, which is substantially too flexible, pliable and deformable.

Q: Why is it called uPVC?

A: The uPVC full form is unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. In simpler terms, uPVC is PVC minus the plasticizers. PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a synthetic plastic polymer widely used across various industries.
