UPVC window frames are a great addition to your home, but they are just as vulnerable to mechanical scratches as any other window frame.
Removing scratches from UPVC window sills at home
You can easily polish the surface of plastic windows to remove most shallow scratches. Deeper scratches require more professional care, or in the worst case, replacement. This doesn't mean that plastic windows are bad, in fact, today's plastic windows are as efficient and economical as glass windows. Plastic windows are lighter than glass windows of the same size and can withstand the worst weather conditions. While neither plastic nor glass windows are completely scratch-proof, they both have good scratch resistance.
Cut and polish method
You'll want to keep your uPVC doors and windows looking neat and clean, but scratches are common. Don't worry, scratches can be easily removed with a few simple methods. Simply remove any minor scratches with 1000 or 1200 grit wet or dry sandpaper, then cut and car polish. Depending on the scratches, you can start as low as 80 grit and progress to finer wet and dry grades. This will remove most of the uPVC.
Properly cleaning and sanding your uPVC doors and windows will keep them looking brand new without damaging their appearance. You can work your way up to 120 grit sandpaper, then 240, 400 and 600 grit until all the scratches are removed. As a final step, take precaution by sanding again with 800 grit or 1000 grit sandpaper, and then 1200 grit sandpaper for any smaller scratches that have occurred.
How to Remove Scratches from Smooth uPVC Plastic Window Frames
We need to note that even if some scratches appear on the plastic, we should not be discouraged. To remove these scratches, we can use some simple methods. Just like removing scratches from other materials, we can use a polishing compound and a rag or a polishing wheel together. Palm sanders can also be used with wet or dry sandpaper to remove scratches, but be sure to be extra careful (or ask an expert to help).
We can start with coarse sand and then gradually follow a gradient down to the finest sand. Be sure to keep the surface wet throughout the process. Finally, we can gently polish it with some T-cuts, and our uPVC windows will be brand new.
Compounds that help remove scratches from UPVC windows
T-Cut, Brasso, and Silver Polish are all very easy products to buy, and they are all very effective. This is because they all have a slight abrasive action that can help remove scratches and residue. Therefore, if you need to repair scratches on your UPVC window sills, these products are very good choices.

You need to clean the surface of the plastic window with a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid to ensure that the surface is clean. You want to use a soft cloth to clean the plastic surface, paying special attention to scratches. However, it is important to note that you should avoid using paper towels and abrasive cleaners that may damage the plastic surface.

You need to pour some brass cleaner onto a soft microfiber cloth and gently rub the scratch. Using a small amount of brass cleaner solution, gently rub the scratch in a circular motion. This will fill in small cracks and polish the plastic surface.

Wipe away any remaining brass cleaner with a clean cloth. If the scratch remains, you can apply another coat of brass polish and gently rub the plastic with your fingers. Continue polishing in a circular motion until the scratch disappears.
